Olive wood is deeply revered as holy in Christianity primarily because Jesus Christ prayed under an olive tree before he sacrificed himself on the cross for our sins.
The cutout Corpus invites contemplation of the mystery without visual distractions. The St. Benedict Medal is used for spiritual protection against evil, temptation, and sickness. It is worn, carried in rosaries, or placed in homes, cars, and building foundations as a reminder of faith, prayer, and protection. The central medallion, with its wood-framed plaque, and the Crucifix follow the same rustic and solemn aesthetic. The figure of Christ (corpus), in a silver-white hue, creates a strong visual contrast with the dark wood of the cross, emphasizing sacrifice and purity.
Dolfi figures, rosaries, and bracelets are handmade in workshops in Val Gardena, Italy. The beads are firmly linked by a sturdy masterfully knotted waxed cord, ensuring strength, durability. The olive wood is obtained through the sustainable practice of pruning, rather than cutting down the historic trees. Olive wood has a distinct, pleasant aroma from the natural oils present in the wood.
While it smells good naturally, improper cleaning can cause it to develop a rancid, sour smell. It should be cleaned with mild soap and, if necessary, treated with a mix of baking soda and water to refresh it.
