Some Buddhists believe that when one of their adherents departs from this world, they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of a lotus. Goddess of Compassion, Mercy, and Kindness is considered to be a mother-goddess and patron of seamen. She is described as the goddess of Mercy and is regarded as one of the most beloved Buddhist Divinities. Kuan Yin symbolizes unconditional love and compassion for those in need. In this statue she holds a water vase in her right hand and a willow branch in her left. The vase is one of the eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune and contains the nectar of life.
